Vita Italiana - Finding Beauty in the Everyday
Italy has a habit of making the ordinary look extraordinary.
Not necessarily the grand piazzas, famous landmarks or postcard views, although there are plenty of those. For me, it's often the smaller things that make me reach for the camera.
Washing moving in the breeze above a street. Faded shutters and sun-worn walls. A narrow alley leading towards the sea. People making their way home after dark. And, occasionally, a gloriously pink Fiat 500 - originally red and faded by the Italian Sun - parked exactly where you would have put it if you'd been directing the scene yourself.
Vita Italiana grew from those moments.
The collection brings together eleven photographs of everyday Italy, photographed not as a checklist of places to visit, but as little observations of Italian life - colour, architecture, texture, light and people.
Some are bright and unapologetically Mediterranean. Others are quieter. La Passeggiata and A Mezzanotte take us into the streets after dark, while Dopo la Pioggia finds the beauty left behind after the rain.
Together, they tell a small story; from the warmth and colour of the day into the streets, and eventually into the stillness of night.
La vita, così com’è. Life, as it is.
And perhaps that's what I love most about photographing Italy. You don't always have to go looking for the photograph.
It's right there - in front of you. You just need to SEE IT!
